5410 - Week 2 - Activity - Wiki

I am not sure where I am supposed to post this, so I hope this is the right place.

I think that if I were to use a wiki in a classroom, I would not use it as a collaborative project, rather a beginner website for students to easily post their homework, interests and projects. For writing a collaborative report I think that google docs would be a better program than a wiki. With Google Docs you can share with just the people who need to see it and/or edit it and publish it only when you are ready for it to be read. If this project were to create a resource website or something that is not written assignment/summary, then perhaps the wiki would be a better fit.

I like google docs too. I have been playing with them a lot recently just to see what the capabilities are. Not only can you create documents, but presentations and spreadsheets too! It's still in beta so who knows what they might add or update. I also found out that you can embed google docs in websites and blogs. I love new toys...

I have never heard of google docs. It sounds interesting. I see your point on wanting only certain people to view the content like you stated for google docs. I believe Wiki's have that capability we had to be invited to view the wiki pages. I know I will have to continue to use wiki's to become comfortable with it as well as the blogs. What do you think you might use for blogs?

I guess maybe I would use a blog for an english journal or something. I am not sure thought because I don't teach.

I use google docs all the time, for me they are easier to pull up than use a flash drive. I still typically copy and paste them into word to do my final formatting because word is easier. I keep everything on there.

I had never head of Google Docs before until you mentioned it. I immediately went and checked it out and found myself uploading files. This is a great resource and I am glad you have mentioned it. I am now interested in using both the Google Docs and Wiki for my summer planning for next year.

Students tracking and organizing their homework. Ccould it be possible? I think it is a great idea. It would be worth the training time for the reduction in paperwork alone.
